Text-Based Informative Essay VIDEO Unit with Pixanotes®, Prompt, Texts, Games & More! Grades 7-9
Tired of repeating your lessons over and over? Allow Agent Spangler (me) to be your co-teacher and help your rookies (students) develop maturity in their writing of text-based informative essays with these secret agent themed video lessons.
My 7th graders were experiencing growing pains with this and so I created these video lessons that take students through each piece and part of an informative essay one at a time:
Phase 1- Planning (3 steps: read the prompt, flip the prompt, read & mark the text)
Phase 2 - Introduction (hook, arch (bridge/transition), thesis)
Phase 3 - Body paragraph (answer, cite evidence, explain with commentary, ingeminate (repeat the cycle of cite and explain with new evidence), top it off with a conclusion)
Phase 4 - Conclusion (affirm the thesis, trim the point, the call to action)
Finally, a Bonus - Planning with planning sheet! Afterward, have your students write the essay they have been working on with this video!
The lessons are designed so that you could show a clip a day for at least 4 weeks. After watching each clip, students will have notes to fill in with definitions and then record a piece or part of the essay. By the time you have finished this unit, your students will have written one text-based informative essay. It will serve as a great model for the future.
